I hear from a lot of 20 and 30 somethings that Bloomington can be a tough place to find your people. Between the younger college student crowd and the older families with kids, where do you fit if you are a younger professional? Right here! Young Professionals Bloomington (formerly hYPe) is a group created by The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce. Open to anyone ages 21-40 who lives, learns, works, and/or plays in Bloomington, YPB aims to facilitate professional development, networking opportunities and friendships for its participants. Join us as we talk with Christopher Emge, Manager of Talent and Education, to learn how YPB is offering opportunities for young professionals to create their community after college here in Bloomington! We also get the scoop on the Chamber’s work with local schools using the Franklin Initiative to get students career oriented at an early age by hosting “Reality Stores.” Reality Stores juxtapose students as 28 year olds with a back story that includes their income (based on their current GPA) and a bank register to track their living expenses. This initiative not only gives students an understanding of the real world, it also exposes them to people with a passion for what they do and sparks a conversation about their future.
In our Facebook Follow segment, follow the Dimension Mill (aka The Mill). Another local resource for busy professionals looking to network and meet other forward thinking professionals, the Mill offers events and opportunities for all. Follow them and take advantage! And in our REAL-List segment, we go back to basics. Answering important questions like why should you NOT call the name on the sign in front of the house you love. This is an important one!
